Writer - Cliff Hensley is an author of prose and poetry, working in the mediums of metafiction, surrealism, magical realism, slipstream, dark fantasy, and macabre horror. His writing tends to be highly experimental, incorporating typographic trickery and nonstandard construction to enhance immersion while blurring the line between plain text and visual art. (Although he will, occasionally, dispense with pretense and tell a good old-fashioned story.) He is a former editor of Seven Story Hotel for Subtle Body Press. His new book, Now You See, an avant-garde work of macabre horror that he calls “a concept album in words,” was released in October 2022 from Shiloh House Press.
Filmmaker – Cliff Hensley is also a guerrilla, no-budget, and chamber filmmaker. After directing numerous 16mm short films of this ilk, in 2004, he went on to win Best Director for his first no-budget feature at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival: The Scam Artist, starring Diamond Dallas Page, was a tongue-in-cheek answer to the ages-old question, “What if Ed Wood had done cyberpunk?” His second feature film, the chamber thriller What Lies Within, was completed in 2017; considered by Cliff to be a magical work and a personal—and decidedly noncommercial—achievement, it has only ever been made available in highly limited private screenings to maintain the intimacy that he believes is crucial to its experience.
Game Designer - On the lighter side, Cliff Hensley has been an avid gamer since childhood. His credits within the industry include a tenure creating content for the world-renowned cyberpunk-fantasy tabletop roleplaying game Shadowrun, and third-party content for doom-metal dungeon crawler Mörk Borg.
